On Sunday, I had a pretty sluggish start to the day, but of course the kids were up and ready to rock bright and early. Fortunately, they have a brand new jungle gym to help them expend some energy.

When I finally fought through the morning fog, I noticed that it was actually quite nice outside, so I decided to take a run outside. We have an old treadmill in the basement and that’s been my primary source of exercise as the weather has gone up and down, so it was really nice to be out in the fresh air.

It wound up being one of the best runs I’ve had in quite a while. I finally added a little bit of distance, and my pace was better than its been in probably close to 10 years. So it’s good to see that my small daily runs are starting to pay off a little.

Back home, Erin had some things to do out in the world and I hung out with the kids. Up in the playroom, Henry has really gotten into pillow fights and we sort of invented a new game called Pillow Battle, where in this case they would both be in the trampoline and I would throw pillows over and through the netting to get them. Amelia would deflect one here or there with a karate chop.

That was tons of fun for about 10 minutes and then we were all pretty tuckered out, partially from laughing. The kids settled down to some cartoons for a while, I did a little writing, and afterward we decided to take advantage of the nice weather and walk over to the park.

We played superheroes and romped around the playground for a while.

It was nice, and I was surprised that, as nice a day as it was, we had the place to ourselves. Afterward we walked back home, had a snack and got ready to go visit some friends for dinner. They are another couple with two kids that live in Denver and are in our small “bubble” at the moment. We hadn’t seen them in quite a while, and it was nice to hang out so the kids could play and we could have some grown up interaction with other human beings.

All in all a good Sunday. We got home a little late, and the dogs were anxious for dinner. We got them settled down as best we could and got our tired kiddos to bed. I was also super exhausted and planned to call it an early night, but Erin was watching the last few episodes of Ted Lasso.

If you haven’t seen the show, see the show. It’s delightful, fun and positive. Erin got sucked in immediately and had been under the impression that she finished the show, and then discovered there were a few episodes left that she hadn’t seen. So it was fun sitting together and watching those, staying up late like in the old days. Yeah, I’ll pay for it in energy on Monday, but it was well worth the laughs together with my wife.
